I’ve been trying to setup RDC so that Nobuko can connect to her office PC from our home mac. Unfortunately, she works for a very small company with no IT department. Her boss’s son set up his PC, and the boss of course has no idea what I’m talking about.

My copy of Quicksilver arrived today. I haven’t started reading yet. I’ve got enough things on my plate as it is. Hopefully, I can read a little this weekend and post some comments.

I bought a new cell phone yesterday after a year without having one, during which time I realized that I didn’t really need one. I know that I don’t need it but its really cool to have one again. I was too busy playing with it last night to post an entry so this is a little late.
I got Docomo’s Foma N2102V. Once again I am reminded how far the US cellphone companies are behind Japan. The number of things that my phone can do that would be impossible to do on the most advanced and expensive US phone is ridiculously high.
I can now take pictures and video among many other things. Once I get the scripts working I’ll start a moblog with photos and a fomablog with video clips. You can expect to see these soon. I have a three day weekend, and I guess that a lot of the time will be spent setting this up.

I just started my training for my second job. This time I’ll be teaching kids…mainly preschoolers! I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to handle this job for long though. The videos that show each month’s current teaching lessons are a little too manic for my tastes. It looks more like a tv show for kids than like an English class. The guy who started my training seemed really pro company, but the second guy seemed a little jaded. I’ve notice that this seems to be the trend at the eikaiwas in Japan. The head trainer, teacher, or whatever they are called at the respective school always seems like they had a little too much of that wacky Kool-Aid if you know what I mean. On a positive note, I think, I’ve already been asked if I can start working full time in January. This is what I was really looking for to begin with. I just settled for a part time position because we needed the money. It looks like I will have to travel a lot more compared with my current job which is just in Tenjin. Well, at least I can pick up some extra cash over the next two months even if I decide not to take the full time position. Who knows, maybe after a week I’ll be hitting the Kool-Aid too!

I’ve found two new books that I can’t wait to get my hands on. One is Neal Stephenson’s latest work, Quicksilver, and the other is by cryptographer, Bruce Schneier, called Beyond Fear. By all acounts they are both excellent. I’m planning on ordering them later today from Amazon. Nobuko gave me the go ahead to use her credit card last night! I’ll post a couple of reviews once I get started reading.

It looks like I’ve found a second job. Its just eikaiwa work unfortunately, but the extra money will be nice, since I’m hoping to buy a G5 by the end of the year, or hopefully sooner! I just hope my current employer doesn’t read blogs since I’m not supposed to work at any other schools!

Today is payday, finally! Our budget’s been pretty tight the last couple of weeks but we should be okay now, even though I’m not getting a full month’s pay. Hopefully now that we can afford to go out I’ll have more to write about and will have more new entries.
